Niloufar Shirani, Ph.D.

Assistant Research Professor

Dr. Niloufar Shirani is an Assistant Research Professor at the University of Connecticut. She joined the Connecticut Transportation Safety Research Center (CTSRC) in October 2020. She earned her MS and PhD degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Her research interests include transportation safety, driving simulator studies, transportation equity, and intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Dr. Shirani's work primarily focuses on highway traffic safety, driver behavior, human-vehicle automation interaction, and leveraging technology to enhance equity and accessibility for underserved communities. She has contributed to numerous projects funded by the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT), the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT), and other federal and state agencies.
