A Connecticut Safety Academy Workshop and A Connecticut Local Traffic Authority ELECTIVE Workshop

*Participants will receive 6 credit hours toward their CT Safety Champion Designation along with LTA elective credit.

Course Description:

This workshop provides guidance for identifying, evaluating, and implementing roadway safety strategies with quantifiable benefits. Participants will learn how to use crash data, perform benefit cost analyses, select cost effective treatments, and maximize safety investments using real-world case studies from local agencies. This workshop is free to all participants.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, participants will:

  • Identify, access, and apply safety data sources for roadway safety analysis
  • Understand the basics of benefit-cost analysis
  • Recognize and describe proven safety countermeasures
  • Select appropriate safety treatments for various roadway and intersection scenarios
  • Apply workshop concepts through real-world case studies
  • Communicate safety analysis findings and recommendations to decision-makers and the public

Instructors:

John McFadden, Ph.D., P.E., has over 30 years of experience in training, technology deployment, and research focused on highway safety, geometric design, traffic operations, and data analytics. He has a long-standing record of mentoring and instructing traffic safety practitioners as well as contributing to the advancement of cost-effective roadway safety solutions.

  • Cost: Free. No registration fee is charged for this class. This training opportunity is offered by the Training & Technical Assistance Center's Connecticut Safety Academy.
  • If a participant fails to attend the workshop and does not inform our team by phone or email by the morning of the training, a $25.00 no-show fee will be charged. Alternatively, you may send a replacement from your agency.
  • Lunch will be provided. 
  • Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Approximately one week prior to the class, you will receive an email confirmation of your attendance, along with the address of the workshop location.
