A CT Traffic Signal Technician Certificate Program Level I REQUIRED Workshop
Course Description:
This workshop introduces participants to the fundamentals of operational safety and basic electricity as they relate to traffic signal systems. The training will cover essential topics including traffic safety and MUTCD requirements, excavation safety, fall protection, and aerial lift safety and inspection. Participants will review OSHA-related practices such as CBYD (Call Before You Dig), lockout/tagout procedures, and storm damage or accident repair site safety. The course also emphasizes the electrical hazards encountered during the installation and maintenance of traffic signal equipment and highlights best practices for ensuring safety in work zones.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Review traffic safety principles, work zone safety, and MUTCD guidelines relevant to field operations.
- Identify excavation hazards and outline proper CBYD procedures.
- Apply lockout/tagout procedures to maintain safe work sites.
- Demonstrate proper use and inspection of fall protection harnesses and aerial lift equipment.
- Apply basic electrical concepts to traffic signal systems and describe safe practices for storm damage response and accident repair.

Course Instructor:
Bill Eyberse is the Lead Instructor of Signal 54 Training and has been teaching for the T2 Center since 2002. Bill has over 30 years of experience in transportation and he conducts training across the region on operational safety.
