Projects are part of our work and personal lives. Regardless of project size or focus, there are fundamental best practices and principles that can help guide us to success. This course is designed to introduce many of these best practices using a municipal public works project as a foundation. Whether you are new or experienced, you will walk away from this class with new outlooks and ideas about how to be a better project manager or team member.
At the completion of this course, you will understand common terms used in project management, learn the use of tools and techniques to manage projects, and have a better understanding of the principles of planning, controlling and evaluating projects.
Upon completion of this class, participants will be able to:
Identify project management terminology
Describe the differences and types of project phases
Identify the stakeholders and analyze their influence on the project
Analyze a project’s critical path
Discuss how to manage conflicts that rise between stakeholders
This course is designed for local agency staff and public works personnel who may be responsible for overseeing projects. Directors of Public Works, Highway Superintendents, Town Engineers and Project leads are encouraged to attend.
