A Connecticut Safety Academy Workshop and A Connecticut Local Traffic Authority ELECTIVE Workshop

*Participants will receive 6 credit hours toward their CT Safety Champion Designation along with LTA elective credit.

Class Description:

This workshop is intended to help transportation professionals address pedestrian safety issues through design and engineering solutions. Attendees will participate in a group exercise which will apply principles, concepts, and strategies covered in the class. Attendees will share and prioritize potential policies and programs.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this class, participants will:

  • Understand the role that planning and street design play in pedestrian safety.
  • Identify good practices and effective solutions to enhance pedestrian safety and accessibility.
  • Identify safety deficiencies and priorities for improvement.
  • Employ commonly used and effective pedestrian crash countermeasures.

Instructors:

Keith W. Sinclair is a Senior Highway Safety Engineer with the Safety & Design Technical Services Team at the FHWA’s Resource Center. His primary duties involve technology deployment and technical service in the areas of Strategic Highway Safety Plans, Pedestrian Safety, Roadside Safety Audits, the Highway Safety Improvement Program and more recently, Intersection Safety. Keith’s actions and expertise include promoting decision making tools that support decreasing fatalities.

Stephen Ratke, P.E., RSP is a Senior Safety and Geometric Design Engineer with the Safety & Design Technical Services Team at the FHWA’s Resource Center. His duties include the advancement of the Safe System Approach, safety culture, and multi-modal design. During Steve’s tenure he has worked in highway design, project delivery, operations, ITS, highway safety, and has supported zero fatalities/vision zero programs. Steve is a Road Safety Professional level 2 infrastructure certificate holder.

  • Cost: Free. No registration fee is charged for this class. This training opportunity is offered by the Training & Technical Assistance Center's Connecticut Safety Academy.
  • If a participant fails to attend the workshop and does not inform our team by phone or email by the morning of the training, a $25.00 no-show fee will be charged. Alternatively, you may send a replacement from your agency.
  • Lunch will be provided. 
  • Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Approximately one week prior to the class, you will receive an email confirmation of your attendance, along with the address of the workshop location.
