A Transportation Leadership Program Elective Workshop

Course Description:

This course will give a clear overview of the principle-based (Win-Win) negotiation model.  Learn how to effectively negotiate anything based on the Harvard Negotiation Project’s approach to conflict resolution.

  1. Separating people from the problem.
  2. Focusing on interests, not positions.
  3. Developing your BATNA.
  4. Regulating your emotions and the emotions of others. 

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this class, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the model of principle-based negotiation.
  • Demonstrate the ability to distinguish someone’s interest from their position.
  • Develop their best alternative to a negotiated solution.
  • Understand how to deescalate an emotional situation by actively listening and restating someone’s position as well as their values.
