Paving is a key operation in every Public Works Department. Whether you are doing your own paving or contracting it out, it is imperative that the job gets done right. This class focuses on best practices in pavement maintenance operations and inspection techniques. Instructors will provide details on getting the most out of every project, and participants will walk away with tips for ensuring that you get the best possible product.
At the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Understand why proper inspection is important.
Discuss general pavement inspection practices for each stage of the process.
Describe the state of the practice for common pavement repairs.
Alex Bernier is the Program Director at the Connecticut Advanced Pavement Lab at the University of Connecticut. A former UConn student himself, before returning to the lab, Alex spent time as a consulting engineer for airports. He dealt with pavement design and construction at airports across North America from Canada to the Caribbean including runway 13L-31R at JFK Airport. At the CAP Lab, Alex’s work is focused on improving Statewide Pavement Management systems, pushing the envelope of project-level forensic analysis with Ground Penetrating RADAR, and pavement mixture performance testing.
