A Connecticut Safety Academy Workshop

*Participants will receive 6 credit hours toward their CT Safety Champion Designation.

Class Description:

At this workshop you will learn about a variety of FHWA’s proven safety countermeasures. The incorporation of these measures reduces serious injuries and fatalities for those involved in pedestrian, bicyclist, intersection, and roadway departure crashes on local roads.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants will understand how to:

  • Reduce roadway departure crashes through the improvement of horizontal curve delineation and the use of rumble strips/stripes
  • Reduce intersection crashes by using roundabouts and systemic low-cost improvements at stop-controlled intersections
  • Reduce pedestrian and bicyclist crashes through the use of bike lanes, crosswalk enhancements, and road diets

  • Town Planners
  • Regional Planning Agency Staff 

Instructor:

Tori Brinkly is a Senior Safety Engineer with the Federal Highway Administration’s Resource Center. Tori has over 30 years of experience in transportation safety and works with counterparts across the nation on subjects such as roadway departures, roadside safety design, rural road safety, and the safe system approach.

  • Cost: Free. No registration fee is charged for this class. This training opportunity is offered by the Training & Technical Assistance Center's Connecticut Safety Academy.
  • If a participant fails to attend the workshop and does not inform our team by phone or email by the morning of the training, a $25.00 no-show fee will be charged. Alternatively, you may send a replacement from your agency.
  • Lunch will be provided. 
  • Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Approximately one week prior to the class, you will receive an email confirmation of your attendance, along with the address of the workshop location.
