A CT Safety Academy Workshop

Course Description:

This course will provide an overview of Complete Streets concepts and introduce you to the background and key aspects of design guidance related to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Attendees will learn how to meet the obligations of ADA within the complexities of the public right-of-way. We will discuss approaches to take when real-world conditions don’t look like the picture in the book. Participants will join in a classroom exercise evaluating and making recommendations for these challenging situations.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize the relationship between Complete Streets, Safety, and Accessibility for Pedestrians with Disabilities.
  • Explain and apply the select design guidelines of the Public Rights-of-Way Accessibility Guidelines(PROWAG).
  • Adapt design criteria from the PROWAG to constrained locations.

Who Should Attend:

This class is designed for local transportation and public safety professionals who are responsible for the maintenance and construction of pedestrian facilities within the public right-of-way and those who may be responsible for the development of ADA Transition Plans. Local Traffic Authorities, Chief Elected Officials, ADA Coordinators, Public Works Directors, Municipal Engineers, and Planners are encouraged to attend.
