A CT Safety Academy Program Training

Course Description:

This course introduces municipalities to the background, content, and enforcement of the self-evaluation and transition plan requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). You will learn how to perform a self-evaluation, create a transition plan, and why they are important.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of this class, participants will:

  • Understand applicable laws, regulations, polices, guidelines, and standards pertaining to accessibility for persons with disabilities in the public right-of-way.
  • Understand the requirements for performing ADA self-evaluations and transition plans.
  • Be familiar with related enforcement and civil case summaries.
  • Identify and experience challenges faced by persons with disabilities in the PROW.

*Participants will receive 6 credit hours toward their CT Safety Champion Designation.

Jason Hughes and Shawn Barry are Safety Technical Associates at the University of Connecticut’s Training and Technical Assistance Center.

  • Cost: Free. No registration fee is charged for this class. This training opportunity is offered by the Training & Technical Assistance Center's Connecticut Safety Academy.
  • If a participant fails to attend the workshop and does not inform our team by phone or email by the morning of the training, a $25.00 no-show fee will be charged. Alternatively, you may send a replacement from your agency.
  • Lunch will be provided. 
  • Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
  • Approximately one week prior to the class, you will receive an email confirmation of your attendance, along with the address of the workshop location.
