This course provides local officials the steps to developing a pedestrian safety action plan, program and activities specifically tailored to their community. It also assists agencies that have an existing action plan with further enhancing it. The course emphasizes the importance of involving partners and stakeholders, collecting and analyzing data and information, prioritizing issues and concerns, selecting and implementing an optimal combination of education, enforcement, engineering strategies. The workshop includes a field exercise in the application of the principles, concepts, and strategies covered in the course. Participants will share and prioritize potential policies, programs, and strategies.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
Municipal and State transportation professionals, traffic and safety engineers, planners, and law enforcement personnel responsible for improving pedestrian safety are encouraged to attend.
