A CT Traffic Signal Technician Certificate Program Level I REQUIRED Workshop

Course Description:

This workshop is designed to provide an overview of how traffic signals operate and how to locate construction and operational information, such as phasing and timings, on a traffic signal plan. This hands-on workshop will include a walk through the various components of a traffic signal plan. We will discuss the process for documenting changes to the traffic signal timings and/or infrastructure. Participants will also learn about the various warrants to justify installation of a traffic signal and other information, including phasing, contained in the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand basic signal timing and phasing concepts.
  • Understand the purpose of a traffic signal and the warrants, including MUTCD warrants, for installing a signal.
  • Understand principles of traffic signal operations.
  • Identify the physical infrastructure on a traffic signal plan and obtain signal timings and operational information from a traffic signal plan.
  • Discuss the process for documenting signal plan changes.
