Shanshan Zhao, Ph.D.

Software Developer

Dr. Shanshan Zhao rejoined the Connecticut Transportation Institute in 2025 as a Software Developer, focusing on crash data systems and transportation safety analytics. She leads the development of the state's crash data collection system, emphasizing improved data quality, usability for agencies, research support, and publicly accessible tools.

From 2016 to 2023, she served as a researcher and principal investigator at the institute, leading state and federal projects to enhance roadway safety and support evidence-based decisions. She then worked in the medical software industry, gaining experience in application development, data systems, and user-centered design.

Shanshan holds a Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering, and master's degrees in Transportation and Computer Science.
