Course Description:

This course is designed to provide participants with the opportunity to assess roadways for pedestrian safety issues and tools to resolve those issues. The goals of Federal Highway Administration’s Safe Transportation for Every Pedestrian (STEP) initiative will be reviewed and its importance in improving pedestrian safety will be discussed. Participants will conduct a field review of pedestrian facilities and evaluate potential safety improvements.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion of the course, participants will:

  • Understand the goal of STEP in improving pedestrian safety in your community.

  • Be able to evaluate and assess a roadway for pedestrian safety issues.

  • Identify appropriate countermeasures and develop recommendations for pedestrian safety improvements.

Who Should Attend:

This class is designed for local transportation or public safety professionals involved in making decisions regarding pedestrian safety in their municipality.

Engineers, Public Works Directors, Highway Supervisors, Local Traffic Authorities (LTAs) and Law Enforcement personnel are encouraged to attend.
