A CT Road Master Program Elective Workshop

Course Description:

This workshop is an introduction to potential electrical and utility based hazards associated with roadway maintenance. It will focus on working around downed wires, utility poles and buried utilities.

Special attention will be paid to storm cleanup and emergency situations but routine procedures and protocols will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize electrical equipment and hazards during storms and blue sky conditions.

  • Understand general utility company protocols during storms and what “Dead and Grounded” means.

  • Know what to do if an electrical emergency situation occurs.

  • Describe Call Before You Dig Procedures and identify different utility markers.

  • Discuss hazards associated with natural gas and general pipeline safety procedures.

Who Should Attend:

This program is designed for any public works professionals responsible for maintaining roads, responding to storm-related road emergencies and storm clean up. Foremen, Crew Leaders, Directors of Public Works and Highway Superintendents are also encouraged to attend.
