In 2019, the Norwood Department of Public Work’s experienced the failure of a large municipally owned steel arch culvert beneath a main thoroughfare in Town. This resulted in an immediate “boots on the ground” action plan to assess the extent of the damage, and most importantly, ensure public safety along a roadway that experiences over 15,000 vehicles per day. Listen in to hear about this unique experience in Norwood that required a long-term solution in a short-term period. Also, learn how to evaluate your bridge inspection reports to identify short-term and long-term action plans. Maintenance type solutions (short-term) that extend the service life of the infrastructure and replacement type solutions (long-term) that typically require time and substantial funding to execute.
